Conecting with the outside

Generating the connection of the spaces with the outside was one of the goals in this project, we saw it, almost, as an obligation.

You'll find photos of the previous state of the house at the end of the report

The project

Aida and Rubén are a couple with a teenage daughter who enjoy being at home and savoring their home. They were considering doing a minor renovation of their house, changing some finishes, and maybe combining the kitchen and the living room. In the end, their project turned into something much more ambitious; they carried out a small extension of the roof, thus achieving an almost 10-meter window, going from having a single-story bungalow to having a single-family home scale with a 70m2 living room, gaining visual connection with the garden and the natural light provided by the large window.

The large window

Creating a connection between the interior spaces and the outdoors was one of the objectives in this project; we saw it as almost an obligation. We designed a pass-through space that, from the moment you enter the house, provides a visual connection to the garden thanks to an almost 10-meter window. In addition to this visual connection to the outside, it makes us perceive the house as a much larger space filled with natural light.

The kitchen

The large black granite island takes center stage in the open space that the living room and kitchen share. This is a multifunctional space that now allows for family life in a more relaxed and informal manner, just as Aida & Rubén wanted.

The staircase

Shaping the staircase was another important task, as it was a space with a very complex geometry that didn't work well. Now, we have a storage area and a shoe rack, a well-organized space that can also be separated from the ground floor by a sliding door. Mobility and accessibility are not at odds with intimacy and privacy, and the spaces can transform according to the specific needs of the day.
