This commission has been very special since it has been a surprise gift from a father to his daughter.
This commission has been very special since it has been a surprise gift from a father to his daughter.
When we first visited this mezzanine in a building in the center of Alicante, we immediately saw that we had a great opportunity on our hands. We only had to know how to read the original project by the architect Juan Guardiola. The wooden curtain wall was completely restored, the glass replaced and the concrete screen wall structure was bush hammered and left exposed.
Since it was originally an office mezzanine, the available spaces sometimes didn't have the proper proportions or dimensions for residential purposes. To address this in a subtle way without losing the spatial continuity that Ricardo wanted for his daughter's home, we used raw iron sheets strategically placed to create the desired level of transparency, depending on the viewpoint.< /p>
For the living room, a significant effort was made to design a raw iron bookshelf that would be assembled on-site with all its elements tongue-and-groove jointed and without welding. In addition, oak separators were added to give movement to the shelf while serving as book supports.
Ricardo would meet with us and tell us about his daughter's preferences and how he thought she would like the house. The truth is that he was absolutely right!</ P>
